words and threads

I have always enjoyed working with businesses to help them illustrate advertising ideas, but when I was approached to do some portraits of the enterprising Maiko for her business, I was thrilled to be a part of her next big thing. Maiko has been on the Big Island for the past decade as owner of Ginger and Koi Boutique in Kailua-Kona. She recently moved to San Diego to split her…

. every moment matters

I recently worked on a wonderful commercial project for DGWB Advertising. I created still images for an animatic that they were using to illustrate an idea for a TV commercial to present to the Board of Directors for St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The story is about a woman who has recently been very ill and was just released from the hospital. She wakes up to hear a clatter of noise and voices in another part of her home.

She walks out to…

photography is a [merckx-forever may you ride]

Over a year ago my husband started to work on building this bike from scratch. He wanted to recreate the bike his brother had dreamed of for many years. His brother did eventually get his Merckx bike only after receiving monetary compensation for injuries from a auto/bike accident that he was in. Exactly four years ago to the day that Jim and I took this bike up to the top of San Clemente to photograph it with sky light,…

[photography is] a technical project

So here it is: the latest project I have been working on with Jim. This Thermador site is live and you can see all the other work he has done with the cooking videos: art direction, sound, color plus a whole lot more goes into a project like this. Lots of professionals working together to create something special. The ad agency that Jim works for is right here in Orange County.
The background still image is culled from 12 different…

[photography] is my elementary school alma mater

I was asked recently to do some photography at the elementary school where I spent 8 of my formative years. My (literally life-long) friend David-whose boys attend school there too-is helping with their website and felt there was a need for some updated photography. I was excited and jumped at the opportunity to go back to the campus where I grew up (it’s not far away though as I look down on the entire campus from my backyard!).

I was…

is our little model

Last week I shot an image of Merrik for a comp for one of Jim’s campaigns that he has been working on for CHOC. He is so proud to be contributing to such an important hospital here in Southern California. I couldn’t find a shot of Merrik that he outlined in his sketch so I shot some new images in our backyard. Merrik just happened to be home sick from Preschool that day and the light was perfect.

Here is…

an ad comp

We were all home sick today. Me with the worst of it. Or maybe just with the worst attitude about it. Being home with the kids is usually a nightmare. The house is a disaster because it’s one project after another to keep them entertained. Today I started the morning looking for existing images of Merrik for a comp for a project Jim is working on.

By late morning it came down to shooting something new for it. I had…
