my life

I left my heart in cherry cove

We’ve spent a lot of time as a family in Cherry Cove at the West End of Catalina-jumping off the boat, rowing the dinghy, snorkeling, kayaking, paddling, free-diving, hiking. Cherry is a little gem of a cove just out and around from Two Harbors. It’s our favorite spot along with Emerald Bay. Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of sailing to Catalina, setting anchor and just living on island time. So, when my children were born…

traditions and tribulations

Picking out a Christmas tree is always an adventure. Even though we usually go to the tree lot at the bottom of our hill and pick out the best tree for our budget and ceiling height, it’s still an adventure. Every year we have memories of the ‘time we picked out the Christmas tree.’ One year we searched from one end of the town to the other to find Merrik his highly coveted…

on decluttering

I am truly a minimalist at heart. I am obsessed with the philosophy of simplifying my life in more ways than one. I love keeping things uncomplicated and I cherish living simply. I love to stay focused on the important things in life: family, health and financial well being. Not only are we living completely debt free but we have savings accounts for important purposes-the boat, kids, retirement. I am also on a mission to create passive income so we can live our…

18 years together

When I was thirty and had been running wild in the mountains of California, Colorado and Mexico, I really could not have imagined that some day I would be in a relationship with an awesome guy for 18 amazing years, married to him for 13 and have two beautiful children. I really hadn’t planned or dreamed of settling down that way at all when I was young. I love change, I love travel, I love to explore.

But, thank goodness I gave this ‘settled’…

Riddlecrew summer roadtrip

At the eleventh hour we decided to take a long road trip to the Central California Coast. Well, maybe not long for others but long for us. Our longest road trip as a family was in a motorhome several years ago. We drove to Durango and back. But our typical road trips are no more than 3 hours. The kids are more practiced at getting along and finding things to do on the boat while we travel from San Diego to Dana…

cub scout campout

Over the weekend we had a fantastic time camping at Palomar Mountain State Park with Merrik’s Cub Scout Pack 705. The location was amazing. It only took us a couple of hours to get to the site and we were completely immersed in the mountain ecosystem at 5500′ elevation. Our site was shaded by oak, incense cedar and Ponderosa pine. We arrived just as it was getting dark and we set up camp by lantern. When we awoke the next morning…

turning seven

My baby girl is turning seven today. The last seven years have been filled with laughter and joy, surprise and revelation. When I was a gooey mess in high school, I swore I would never have a daughter. I just couldn’t imagine wanting someone else to endure the challenges of growing up an emotional and out of place girl like I was. Well, Maliea has taught me that you don’t have to be that way: that it’s ok to be tough and…
