A Big Milestone

Our recent voyage to Two Harbors on Catalina Island was a huge milestone for us as a family. We’ve been dreaming of sailing with the kids on our new to us Kelly Peterson 46 for over two years. Health issues, recurring boat system problems, and lack of enough time and money has kept us from making the journey out of San Diego.

We had intended to depart two days after Christmas but there was a small craft advisory so we…

It’s not easy being green

It’s not that easy being green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or yellow or gold-
or something much more colorful like that.
It’s not easy being green.
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over ’cause you’re not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water-
or stars in the sky.
But green’s the color of Spring.

Fight Song and other inspiring things

“One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am – a reluctant enthusiast….a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And these qualities have little to do with success as we have defined it.”

Know that feeling

Do you know that feeling? The one where you have been dreaming about something almost your entire life-at least since you were 14-and then that dream becomes reality?
Well, I do and it is amazing!! Thirty five years ago I had a dream to own a sailboat and sail it everywhere. Then just fourteen years ago I started down the path with my husband to buy a sailboat for our family to sail the world. After all the hard work and the patience and…

let’s sail away

Last November we sailed to Catalina Island to enjoy a quieter and more ‘in the moment’ experience as a family. Being so grateful for our ability and desire to be on a 38′ sailboat in quiet coves together, we decided it was a perfect way to celebrate our Thanksgiving. When we go, our time is always spent in ways that I wish we would spend it while we are at home. Alas, we get distracted by schedules and expectations. On Pelican…

throw off the bowlines

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”  Mark Twain
